i decided to see how many days it'd been since bonyou first went live, and huzzah, it just happened to be the 100th day today, on march 2nd of 2026! so im writing a blog to celebrate this small event :3
i gotta be really honest i'm quite surprised bonyou has lasted this long. i started my first site, chromatographics, at the very end of may 2025, but took it down and changed my site domain only 4 months later. while bonyou hasn't gone that far yet, i think i'm currently satisfied enough with how it is now that i won't change names again :-)
of course, i did just revamp the layout, but that's inevitable when you're running a site. it was just that for quite a while i was struggling to make my site reflect how i truly want to present myself to the internet, and i couldn't really settle on a vibe that i liked. in the end, i built my site around the things that i think best reflected me: my interests, ofc :3
when i started bonyou in november 2025 i'd just finished watching season 2 of sakamoto days, so that's what i chose sakamoto days to theme my site around! i've been a big fan of it ever since i watched season 1 around march of 2025 and subsequently read the manga.
at the time i was also really into japanese band midori (i still am now!), and i'm a big fan of referencing shows, songs or other stuff i liked, so i decided to pick midori's "bonyou vs bouyou" to take inspiration from. it's mentioned in my website's about page, but bonyou ぼんよう (凡庸) means "mediocre" or "ordinary" - i picked it because i wanted the site to be just "ordinary".
"ordinary" as in nothing too fancy. "ordinary" as in simple, and yet special in other, subtler ways. it seems paradoxical, but i think there's a way to stand out without needing to reach for the highest rung on the ladder :-)
i might be talking a little nonsense but maybe i just haven't found a way to put it into words that convey the right meaning yet. if i ever do i think i'll do a take on it and write a personal manifesto talking about my views; ive always wanted to try one and this topic seems like the perfect way to start off :3
anyways. 100 days of bonyou :-0 been working on it on and off for the past few months despite all the schoolwork waiting beside me.. hopefully bonyou can grow more as a site and finally become my permanent (as permanent as you can get on the internet) corner on the net ^o^
