i spent all day working on my site instead of my art project, but that's expected of me. so instead i decided the only way im gonna get my lazy ass moving is to do the brainstorming on my site. im a weird person with weird solutions, but hey, it works. welcome to art project hell

if you're somewhat curious i suppose you could read on, but if you're just here for actual blog things i recommend you skip this one. it's going to be long and boring; i'm just going to ramble without any context. i don't suppose this would go better in a "journal" page, but they're going to end up the same anyway, so whatever.

for prep 1 i was thinking to focus more on observational drawings, but im struggling to pick out what subject matter to actually use. i need to think about the flow to prep 2, and while i need to narrow down my subject matter picks, i still need to further develop my ideas without the scope being too wide that my developments being shallow. so far it's more surface level things like teeth, jaw, neck, with an emphasis on unconventional but not too outright strange photography angles.

techniques wise, i'm going to keep it to a minimum, maybe just scanning and printing finished artwork and subjecting them to various methods of chromatography. i tried completely soaking a printed photo once, the colours just sort of leached out. i think we could also try dripping water onto the photo, then letting it run down?

i'd also considered over-application of medium, in this case watercolour would be the best bet to achieve that sort of bleeding paint look. and gel inks with water as well. i am a little concerned that the watercolour might come out looking amateurish at best, instead of an intentional look, but i'll just settle with it for now.

for prep 2, really emphasise on the weird photography angles, maybe try x0.5 or wide zoom also. develop techniques - completely submerging/soaking the photos and then tearing them/poking holes in them? i was also thinking about printing pictures of the damaged photo and damaging that photo as a sort of recursive effect, but now that i think about it i wonder if it would be too many developments at once. what we want is to develop a more specific aspect of the techniques we already explored in prep 1. so maybe i should introduce one or two more techniques into prep 1 that i can combine to develop in prep 2?

i forgot, i should be focusing on varied media as well. so aside from paint and ink, we can definitely show experimentation with bleeding of different kinds of media. paint, colour pencil (it's not the most soluble, but i think it still has a bit of an effect anyway?), printer ink, pen ink, charcoal?? and mixed media too. ooh we could use an insoluble medium on a soluble one and soak that. omg im a genius

i was wondering whether i should include eyes as a subject matter, i feel like it's a little too generic but i think we could focus on unconventional aspects of it to make it more meaningful. like using lighting to focus on the patterns/textures u can see in the iris.

interrupting myself to suggest moving this to a separate project log on its own????? maybe??

okay so i think prep 1 is sorted out. i was planning on just doing prep 1 and 2 today but considering my graduation is on wednesday i'm not going to take the risk. also the earlier the better. i think i'll treat myself to a youtube video if i do at least 3 preps :3c

wait, i forgot the techniques in prep 1..... maybe we'll just leave it. i dont want to overload prep 1 with too much stuff anyway.

then we can bring in the recursion thing in prep 2. i think the soluble-insolube medium thing can be developed in prep 2 instead of one, i think that gives a better flow

okay. we're heading in some direction, im getting somewhat excited :3 ill get all of this onto my actual planning thing before we continue
