[ back to blog ]
< previous entry | next entry >
initially i wanted to write this to specifically rant about uniqlo, but upon further braincell labour i have come to realise that this isn't really a problem limited to uniqlo. just to be clear, this is just my experience, no research done. this is just a casual blog for my thoughts from what i've seen
it's almost absurd. most popular clothing brand i can think of always has the same black white and beige when it comes to colour choices - olive green and navy blue if you're lucky. i wonder if it's because those are the easier/cheaper colours to mass produce, with fast fashion and all that.
of course, i can see the benefits of using a limited palette using just black, white and beige/khaki. it's a really simple but stylish look and you don't have to overthink colour coordination. plus olive green goes with those neutrals *and* gives a pop of colour that's not too subtle and not too loud. i get it.
but Please you don't want to see the period of time where i walked around looking like a fuckin tree with my grey-green shirt and brown pants.. the horror
silliness aside, hunting for a good pair of red shorts or a nice yellow shirt is almost a dream for me. i can't wear much like jackets or hats in this hellish combination of humidity and sun, so i pretty much only have a shirt and pants to go by. i wear the same shoes/slippers pretty much everywhere, but i'm hoping to change that soon.. anyways.
graphic tees are my best friend, i owe them so much. they're cool plus some cool yellow stars make you look even cooler. long live graphic tees
i recently got a uniqlo x tate graphic tee with the most gorgeous design ever, and it's one of my favourite pieces, along with my bright blue henri matisse ut graphic tee. i will wear them until they fall apart.
basically, i love uniqlo's ut graphic tees, especially when they release a collaboration with my favourite anime or show. but please tell me why the tees mostly come in Black or White. with a single manga panel/anime splash art slapped in the middle with nothing else.
spoilers: it's cheaper that way.
that's what i think, at least. i don't think they'd want to increase costs printing on both sides of the shirt, which is just such a shame. it's not an issue if you wear a jacket to cover the back, but did i mention the type of climate i live in
recently in my trip to japan i visited second street despite knowing i probably wouldn't be able to get anything, and i just couldn't believe all the cool stuff they had in there. there were so many uniquely patterened pieces that i dont think i could ever find shopping in retail clothing stores. it's just a shame i have a hard time finding anything thats my size orz
hopefully i'll be able to upgrade my wardrobe soon. i'm trying to shop for clothes more mindfully nowadays, with fast fashion being an even bigger issue than ever as a result of the rise in popularity of brands like shein. but that aside, can we have more colour choices please !!
before i end the blog i would also like to address the fact that wearing bright colours attracts attention. i'm a big time introvert. i overthink in social situations and would rather eat a meal that i didnt order if it meant i didnt have to confront the waiter about it. but hell if i ever stopped being a walking rainbow. i get that wearing lots of colour isn't too popular, but that isn't to say that nobody wears the occasional bright orange or blue.
hopefully the stuff i said made sense. this is just meant to be me vomitting my thoughts into an entry and maybe it can become something you can think about. i'm not here to write fully structured essays with a five course research meal, so this is, as ive said, just me speaking about my experience :-) which is quite fun actually!
25.12.25 addendum: i actually went to a retail store that had lots of clothes in different colours, bright ones included :3c so yeah ofc they exist. my experience might be completely my own and i just missed the actually cool stores. but on further consideration i also think most stores that only have a few colours may be fast fashion ones
