[ back to blog ]
< previous entry | next entry >
just wanted to make a blog post about my biggest accomplishment in crafting my site so far, only because im way too proud of it. if you haven't noticed (or if you're browsing on mobile/small screens), there's a little pagedoll on the bottom right of the site! if you hover over them they say some lines which are currently only in japanese, but i'm considering translating them in the future.
the assets themselves come from the sakamoto days dangerous puzzle mobile game, so of course all rights goes 2 their respective creators. i unfortunately couldn't find any transparent gifs of the sprites so i had to isolate each frame from their background myself and you don't want to know how long that takes.. luckily remove.bg made it a lot easier, otherwise i would've been spending days for each character (ㅎᴗㅎ )...
now comes the cool part. if you refresh your page you might get a different character ..... and they have their own special lines too :0 i will not say how much braincell rubbing this took to code, but im so glad i managed to accomplish it !! i learned how to access specific items in javascript arrays by consulting the code from adilene's music player, which is a little irrelevant in terms of what it does but makes me even happier that i could apply it into something completely different :3c
i'll definitely be adding more characters over time, but the process of transforming video recordings of the characters into transparent gifs isn't a quick task TT it's also not fun when all the frames look practically indistinguishable together...
imagine my pain
anyways. i do realise that i don't like sitting down and reading or watching tutorials - or in this case, reading w3school's javascript tutorials - and much prefer going hands on as a way of learning. in the same way, i never really liked revising from textbooks and would rather pull up some past exam papers before an exam. i just feel that it's much easier to use active recall that way, and in my case with this fun little pagedoll exercise, allows me to feel that sense of accomplishment when i've got something to work!! i've occassionally tried other forms of programming in the past few years but i've never really gone too far with them, so im glad i managed to get something to work ^o^
