lo and behold. i have done it

(if you dont want to/havent read my previous entry, i was trying to convert jpgs into webps using cli & imagemagick)

no evidence until i actually upload the gallery onto the site, but trust me bro i mastered the imagemagick of converting jpgs to webps. sort of.

i was running into problems like commands not being recognised and all that, but in the end the commands are pretty simple i think. i ended up installing the newest version of windows powershell, but i frankly have no idea if it helped with anything lol. but yeah i managed to convert my photos into webps, yay me

there's a tiny issue where the images rotate 90 anticlockwise, which happened when i used online converters as well, but luckily with the power of my trusty powershell cli & tutorials from the net i discovered how to easily rotate images as well. for my future self's sake and for anyone else who might somehow be interested, i'll write down the commands here because as soon as i dont use this for a day im gonna forget all the steps i took orz

firstly i have to pull up the folder in which the images are stored using "cd c:\filepathhere\photofolderhere". obviously insert file paths and folder names as appropriate, and remember to use a backslash!!

next i simply have to use the command mogrify -format webp -quality 80 *.jpg, as kindly instructed by this article. and boom all your jpgs are selected using the wildcard (*) and converted into webps! truly a wonder

if any images got rotated in the process, i simply move them into a folder, pull up that folder using cd, then use the command mogrify -rotate 90 *.jpg, and they'll all be rotated 90deg clockwise ^o^

it's shockingly simple for the amount of braincells it took me to figure it out. to be fair the most i did was scrounge the net for tutorials, but you'd be surprised to find that complete beginner tutorials are hard to come by, or at least, in my experience..

either way, i'll be setting the gallery up using melon's gallery maker and hopefully all this webp nonsense will be settled soon. wow that took too much out of me
