bonyou ぼんよう (凡庸) is a japanese adjective used to describe the mediocre or ordinary. this site is named after osaka punk jazz band midori's bonyou vs bouyou (凡庸vs茫洋).
initially i picked it because it was what i wanted my site to be - nothing too special or loud, just "average" but still mine. this was mainly because before the first three versions of bonyou, i was burning myself out trying to make ridiculously complex layouts, so switching to a much simpler layout was both refreshing and allowed me to slowly go back into webcrafting.but through those many versions of bonyou and all my other sites i think i've finally found a style i like, and that's what you're most likely looking at now!!
so.. bonyou isn't bonyou anymore. if anything, it's the opposite of what you'd call "ordinary"!! what then?
maybe bonyou doesn't have to be just bonyou - the "bouyou" (茫洋) in midori's 凡庸vs茫洋 actually means limitless. bonyou started out simple. but that doesn't mean it's not full of potential!!
but i'm also keeping it because i think it now reflects how i as a person want to be; i don't need to be talented and im certainly not a genius. im just a bonyou (❁´◡`❁)
also because changing domain names would be a pain in the ass for everyone involved.. but anyways.
as u may or may not know this site has gone through 4 different domain names and a hundred different layout changes. everything on this site is constantly shifting and changing and being tweaked so i try to archive my site versions as much as my storage feasibly allows me to
a lot of pages (like this one) are unstyled because i prioritise getting the content out before i style it, but also mainly because a lot of those pages were already public from my iframe days and for the sake of letting it stay public i just left it like that. and also because if i waited until i styled anything this site would exist 50% less

on may 29 2025 i started my website crafting journey! that means i've been wrestling with htmlcss for ..
at the time i had only learnt basic website design using tables from my ict classes.. which is a horribly outdated method so i had to learn flexbox and all that on my own. it was a very fun learning journey though, and im still learning! a lot of it is looking at other people's code though .. gulp
